Andrew P. Cooper
Andrew Cooper is a founding member of Mohen Cooper LLC with over 30 years of experience in representing clients, often in the capacity of lead counsel with responsibilities at every management and supervisory level. These responsibilities included risk management on issues such as fraud and abuse and corporate structure, as well as management and shareholder agreements, practice sales, health care reorganizations, consulting, complex commercial and civil litigation, healthcare, and intellectual property litigation and corporate, patent, trademark and copyright applications, enforcement and defense, construction and bankruptcy. Andrew was named New York’s “Super Lawyers” list as the top attorneys in New York for six years running (2013 – 2018)
His representative clients spanned a wide range of industries, from Fortune 500 companies, to the snack food and beverage industry, colleges and universities, as well as major manufacturers and retailers. Including matters involving the intersection of those practice areas. Mr. Cooper’s representation of the construction industry includes building owners and developers, as well as contractors and subcontractors in construction related litigation and arbitrations and business transactions. His healthcare practice includes representing a diverse cross-section of health care providers including physician groups, hospitals, physician/hospital organizations, independent practice associations, diagnostic and treatment centers, office-based and ambulatory surgery centers, effectively acting as lead counsel in all aspects of business operations including, but not limited to, transactions, employment, human resources, and litigation matters.
Receiving his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law in 1989, where he won the 1987 Hofstra Law Review Writing Competition, was on the Hofstra Law Review, 1987-1988, and the Editorial Board of the Hofstra Law Review, Volume 17, 1988-1989. He soon went on to a Federal Clerkship with the Honorable Thomas J. McAvoy, United States District Judge, Northern District of New York and, thereafter, obtained a Masters of Legal Letters in Private International Law from New York University School of Law (LLM, 1994) not before earning his Bachelors of Business Administration in Public Accounting from Hofstra University (B.B.A., 1986), where he was in Beta Alpha Psi and a member of the Accounting Honor Society.
Through these accomplishments Andrew has also remained significantly involved in is community, where he was a President of the Merrick PAL Soccer League, and founder of the Merrick PAL Developmental Soccer Program. Mr. Cooper is also a soccer coach, with a LIJSL “C” License/NSCAA State Diploma (Level 3) (US Soccer Level “E” equivalent). In addition, until 2015 Mr. Cooper was the President of the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs Hockey Club, a position he’s occupied since 2009, and which included both the Middle School and JV programs. Mr. Cooper also coaches in the Massapequa Coastal Baseball League’s Challenger Division. Lastly, he was the Head Coach of Hofstra University’s Men’s Rugby Team until the Fall, 2015 season.
Furthermore, Andrew is currently a Special Professor Adjunct Professor at the Maurice A. Dean School of Law at Hofstra University where he teaches a course on Foundational Lawyering Skills, Mr. Cooper has also been a regular lecturer for National Business Institute and Lorman Education Services and has presented on a variety of topics since 2003; He was also featured in Long Island Business News, Who’s Who in Healthcare Law, June 6-12, 2014, Vol. 61, No. 24.
Mr. Cooper is admitted to practice law in all courts in the States of New York, New Jersey and Florida, before the federal courts in the Eastern, Southern and Northern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey and the Southern District of Florida.
